Well develloped hexagonal shaped greyish-blue to deep blue Sapphire crystal with very little matrix consisting of fieldspar and Muscovite. The typical triangular striated surface shows a nice lustre.The Ilmen mountains are a famous Russian locality - typelocality for Ilmenite - and parts of it are natural protected area now.
